The DA Prep Online Course is a comprehensive program that teaches the student about dental assisting, the dental profession, the dental office and the laws of the state of Texas. Modules include radiology, infection control, oral health, prevention of dental disease, patient information, dental charting, instrument identification, chairside assisting, pain management, dental materials, dental procedures, career preparation and employability.
The DA Prep Online Course is $1499.00. This includes the RDA certification review and exam. If you would like to also do the Nitrous Oxide Monitoring Certification Review and Exam, that option is available for an additional $120.00
To be able to enroll in the DA Prep Online Course, you must be a current high-school student. This includes students in public school, private school, homeschool, virtual school or other alternative learning setting.
It varies depending on the participant. Motivated students finish around 3 months with the average time being around 6 months. Course must be completed within 1 year of enrollment.
There is a 20-hour required internship where the student is able to view or participate in specified procedures. Internships can take place at an office in the student's local community. Guidance on the internship is given through the online course.
Rebecca Ficken and Lorie Jones, both of whom are dental hygienists and educators, oversee the online course and communicate with the student about the student's progress. (See the About Us Section)
The course material is graded on a Pass/Fail in lieu of the traditional letter grade. Comprehension of the material is of utmost importance.
This course prepares the student to take the Texas Registered Dental Assistant review and exam as well as the Nitrous Oxide Monitoring Certification Exam.
There is an application process the student must adhere to in order to become a registered dental assistant with the state dental board. This process is reviewed in detail through the online course.
